The NHL is supposedly sponsoring these studies for five schools. When will we learn who else is looking into adding D1 hockey? Possibly Rutgers, Pitt, Syracuse, Rhode Island? More Pac-12 schools to join Arizona State?
What I also find interesting is who is NOT on this list. Where is Penn State, Alabama, Southern Cal, ... ? There were some surprising names to me in these top ten lists.
Next up: North Carolina lawmakers introduced legislation that would outlaw same-sex marriage, despite the U.S. Supreme Court decision from 2015. I can just imagine another boycott coming if that ever passed.
But not just any G5 school. Western Michigan just proved you can go undefeated and still not even be considered for the national championship. They did every thing in their power, and it still wasn't good enough. For most G5 schools, there is no possibility of a national championship from day...
Flug also mentioned that Iowa may be considering a D1 hockey program. I always thought that was a major selling point for UConn. The B1G will have an uneven number of hockey teams next year with the addition of Notre Dame. I'm sure they would prefer to have eight instead of seven teams...
I don't understand the infatuation with four superconferences with 16 teams apiece. Each conference is an entity of their own, and they will do what is best for their own self interest. You can no more force them to have the same number of schools each than you can force GM, Ford, and Chrysler...
For what it's worth (non-key tweet) ...

Look for SMU and Rice to leak that they are no longer under consideration for B12 membership. UCF hasn't been told yet but it's coming.
Agreed. I have a graduate certificate from UMd. They do pretty good athletically too, at least in the Olympic sports that nobody cares about.
Still waiting to hear that woodpecker and the ash tree joke.... (gotta do something to pass the time while we wait for the next CR tidbits)
Or they're waiting to announce UConn as the basketball season is heating up. Maybe they feel it would be more acceptable to the casual fan at that time.
Saying these blogs represent their respective University president's opinion on expansion is like saying the BY speaks for Herbst. That being said, I do agree with your last statement: Nobody knows nothin'.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it takes UConn longer than 27 months to earn $10M from the AAC. They could withhold every penny and UConn would still owe them more after their 27 months notice is up. Look at what the ACC did to UMd.
One of the reasons for expansion was supposedly because WV was on an island. There are no other teams in the league anywhere close. So why would the B12 remedy that by inviting another island in BYU? That doesn't make sense. Then again, who ever claimed the B12 ever made logical decisions...
I never said it wasn't a religious school. But, regardless, this is not the place to debate cults. As long as UConn gets picked, I don't really care who else the Big XII selects. Can we at least all agree on that? :)
Yes, very worrisome indeed. If they have no long-term plans to exist after 2024, then why sign yourself up to travel half-way across the continent for tennis matches? Just make it easy on yourself and hop across the river to Memphis and be done with it. The same logic applies to BYU, which...
I always preferred Petra myself.
p.s. - thanks for 31GuardTrap for moving us along so quickly. I was almost ready to post something this morning (insightful, no doubt), but decided against it for fear it would be the first post on page 666.
I wonder how many of the 1000+ Yes votes are readers of this forum? Is there really that much interest in UConn in the Great Plains? Or do they just recognize that UConn is their best chance to save the B12? Because without the B12, K-State is screwed.
Interesting idea for a sports league. Unfortunately, college conferences are more than just sports leagues. The Big Ten, for example, is a group of like-minded research institutions. Regardless of how good or bad Illinois, Purdue, Rutgers, etc. are on the field, it's how they are in the...
All of the B1G campuses seem to be located between the forests, even in the Plains states (I think they show every tree in Nebraska). Notice what isn't forested when the camera pans out at the end? It sure looks like UVa and UNC to me. Could that be some foreshadowing?
