What is the end game in a P2 world?

Don't think it's a bluff, nor is this meant to tie them together for ever. IMO this is a way to put a process in place to make sure the State is in the loop without actually making a binding law thru the legislature. But make no mistake about it, none of the power brokers in Chapel Hill are...

What is the end game in a P2 world?

I wouldn't put money on that & UNC will not end up in the B1G unless it's a brokered deal that has NCSU going to the SEC

Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

Their never has been a separate NC State system. The current governance structure makes each campus independent from each other but they all answer to BOG. So you are correct in that the Chancellor/BOT's at UNC have no authority over NCSU, ECU UNCC etc

    NBA TV Negotiations

TNT just won the exclusive rights to the NBA in the UK,it includes all nationally broadcast games, the entire playoffs, NBA draft,NBA finals etc. So that's the package that is split between ESPN/TNT in the US & that's part of the reason ESPN is reluctant to break the the bank

Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

The Big 12's deal is part of a extension that starts at around 25 & ends at 31.7 but the ACC also has a extension that doesn't kick in until 2027/2028. That's why you still have the Raycom package of games that were to expensive to buy back early. So the ACC will be ahead of the Big 12 from a...

    NBA TV Negotiations

Remember ESPN is bidding mostly on US domestic rights & may have some global rights based on whether their channels are carried in specific countries. The NBA has several deals with social media/digital sites overseas to carry live games/content. League Pass is the NBA's largest potential cash...

    NBA TV Negotiations

I think alot of people underestimate the NBA's reach for whatever reason. The thing people miss is that the NBA is the only true global professional US based league. 300 million plus people in China consume NBA content on a regular basis. So a national game audience of 2-3 million(US) includes...

ACC votes to add Stanford, Cal, SMU: Conference presidents approve expansion to 18 schools

Don't know & by the time some of these are up for renewal ESPN's DTC service will be up & running. I would think that the Disney/Charter deal lays the groundwork for most future cable/sat deals

ACC votes to add Stanford, Cal, SMU: Conference presidents approve expansion to 18 schools

Yeah I understand that, all I'm saying that whatever tier each cable company & ESPN agreed to pay the extra fee. Now it doesn't matter to me since I ditched cable/sat years ago & currently use Google Fiber/YouTube TV

ACC votes to add Stanford, Cal, SMU: Conference presidents approve expansion to 18 schools

I'm pretty sure that all carriage deals include the main ESPN channels along with the ACCN & SECN. Now what tier they are on is a whole different matter

Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

But it's not higher, the ACC is still under it's original contract that includes the Raycom games which ends in 2027. So the 19-24 million tier 1-2 content value people throw around is based on the 2012 contract not the 2016 extension that includes the ACC network

ACC votes to add Stanford, Cal, SMU: Conference presidents approve expansion to 18 schools

Was referring more to stadium size, they don't need a 60,000 seat stadium for most of their home games. If they have Notre Dame or Oklahoma at home then they could easily move that game to the Cotton Bowl to max out ticket revenue
  13. R

ACC votes to add Stanford, Cal, SMU: Conference presidents approve expansion to 18 schools

I don't think it will, TCU & Baylor do ok with similar sized stadiums & they won't depend on gate revenue

ACC votes to add Stanford, Cal, SMU: Conference presidents approve expansion to 18 schools

I think their serious but no need to make a change right now. Lashlee is well respected among coaches in their prime recruiting areas & has experience coaching in the ACC &SEC. He could be the next Malzahn,Briles type coach, so they will give him a couple years at least

ACC votes to add Stanford, Cal, SMU: Conference presidents approve expansion to 18 schools

Don't see Deion at SMU but there will be big name coaches who they could go after. Urban Meyer might be interested, assuming he wants to coach again. We also have to look at them for what they are & that's a small school that got relegated from playing the Yankees(UT),Red Sox(OU) to now playing...

ACC votes to add Stanford, Cal, SMU: Conference presidents approve expansion to 18 schools

They won't win alot of SEC recruiting battles at least not against the top half of the league but only TCU & OSU from the B12 are in a better position with TX recruits the rest have major issues & Baylor may be heading back to average

ACC votes to add Stanford, Cal, SMU: Conference presidents approve expansion to 18 schools

There was a time when SMU ruled Dallas & that was before the Pony Express days. Now it's not realistic to think they can return to those days but they are located in the heart of Dallas & can grow their fanbase in DFW if the product is good. They won't fail because of a unwillingness to give...

ACC votes to add Stanford, Cal, SMU: Conference presidents approve expansion to 18 schools

Going to disagree somewhat. Playing in the WAC,CUSA, AAC etc just doesn't move the needle in a major metro like DFW no matter how much money your alumni base has. They at least have a legitimate shot at getting recruits that are now ending up at TCU,Baylor,Ok St,TTU.

I would definitely say Charter won out this round but if ESPN partners with say Amazon on their DTC model then they will gain more leverage going forward

Looks like both gave up some ground, Charter subs get Disney + at a discount & Disney gets it's increase in fees

Because the conference would start withholding distributions toward the exit fee plus their's a huge difference between 3-4 years & 13years.

No doubt & Cutcliffe left a solid foundation to build on. They also have used the portal to fill in key needs
  23. R

    Duke 28 Clemson 7

Duke did win 9 games last year & returned almost every key contributer. You can't put Duke or Wake for that matter in automatic win column any more
  24. R

    ACC expansion

They're not losing a home game, UNC for example would lose 1 soccer match(M&W) against Cal/Stanford & they trade a 5 hr flight for a 3.5 hour one
  25. R

    ACC expansion

The plan I've heard about SMU hosted conferences games would be used so Cal/Stanford don't have to go cross country fives times for say soccer. So you replace a midweek road trip for them & existing members would lose 1 true home match but that would be rotated so it might only happen 1 every 4...

    ACC expansion

It all depends on what moves are made down the road. What guaranteed cut of the the expanded CFP the ACC gets & how the conference distrubutes those funds are key. Also down the road the Big 2 are going push for more money from the NCAA & are going to need support from the ACC,B12, Big East to...

    ACC expansion

Don't get me wrong this is what it is. But I will say these are schools UNC might stay attached to long term even if FSU/CLE leave
  28. R

    ACC expansion

I agree 100@% on Cal but Stanford had a great 10 year run playing in 5 CFP level bowls, winning 4& finished ranked in the top 10 5 times. Now can they replicate that in the NIL/Portal era is in question. SMU on the other side will likely thrive in the NIL/Portal era & coming for free doesn't hurt...

    ACC expansion

My understanding is that UNC favors a plan that gives the schools with the most value(FSU,CLE,MIA,UNC,Duke) more base payments & rewarding all with performance based incentives. They are proposing to do this with mostly new money Calford/SMU savings,CFP & tourney revenue.
  30. R

    Non-Key Tweets

Until the cable bundle dies then that's not a bad bet. In the future I think we see more conferences bundle all of their rights TV/multi media etc to maximize value. I also think we see tiered distribution similar to the CFP, the schools that bring the most value will get the highest guaranteed...

They won't be doing much of anything since both will be out of office this year & doesn't matter right now cause UNC not looking to anywhere for awhile

I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same. But it's been clear that the focus has been on changing UNC's vote
  33. R

Because the state won't allow it. So basically they both go to the same conference or 1 goes to B1G & the other to the SEC or we stay where we are
  34. R

Key tweets, and it's all gone to Hell.

Yeah that's nothing new, the UNC/NCSU dynamic is unique compared to most of the other instate rivals that split. So it we both go or we both stay
