If his ego plays any role, it is that he will commit even harder to success (if that's humanly possible) to avoid failure. I believe his strong family (wife, sons, dad) will keep him grounded.
I recall reading that Singare was viewed as having considerable potential, but was still raw in terms of experience. Does anyone know how he was doing in practice this past year?
Too add to what I posted earlier:
Read this a.m. in the NH Register: ""He's a great player," Clingan noted. "... Tonight, he elbowed me in the head about 15 times. I might need some Advil later."
He is a dominant player and had a great year. But his size and ability are helped by the refereeing. He constantly elbows and bumps his defender. Samson can only dream of getting that much leeway from refs.
100% agree. Ms. Bettencourt had two years to learn the game from a Hall of Fame coach, and play against Paige and other top flight performers in practice. That will serve her well wherever she goes. I would suspect both are leaving on good terms, and Geno has already given them advice on their...
I don’t think she was given a chance to develop. I don't view it as a win for either UConn or Ms. DeBerry. Both will move on, but I think Geno and she both wish the outcome was different. I've watched her for three years on the bench and she either loved her teammates or she was the best actress...
I guess the biggest surprise in her announcement and subsequent stories was that she was a UConn fan all along, with a Huskies poster up in her room. Wonder if the two in-state schools were for her parents' sake.
I would take the heights listed by schools including UConn with a grain of salt. I'm always surprised when the men go to NBA combines and are measured as shorter - in some cases by a fair amount - than their reported heights.
Allie Ziebell, one of the incoming UConn w freshmen, who won the combined mens/womens 3 pt contest @ the McD's game said she took 100K shots in practice over the summer. Not saying SJ needs to do that, but would love to see his shooting improve. Then he just might be "up on the wall."
Geno will have an over-abundance of riches next season. Staley gave 9 players minutes against NC State. Geno will have 13 realistic contributors. I'd love to see UConn come at teams with waves of players and wear them down physically with aggressive play. Not sure Geno is comfortable playing a...
I'd be surprised if Nika plays in America this summer. One would guess that she'd foremost want to play for the Croatian team in the Olympics. Even though the WNBA has an Olympic break, it would likely be to her benefit to train and play with the team earlier in the summer.
This is all about Clark's ego. She wanted to be wanted by UConn. She was never going to leave Iowa. She was born in Des Moines and wanted to play at home.
Look at Clark's comment: "I wanted to be recruited by UConn." She did not say, "I wanted to play for UConn."
I think Rebecca and Deb Antonelli both did nice jobs as perceptive commentators. Both were also objective on air as alumni of teams in the mix.
At times, though, I had to mute the volume when Mowins decided whatever point she was making was more important than the game's play by play, her...
She did look exhausted and it showed in her late shooting. Pardon if this has been discussed, but I don't understand why Geno did not play Ice earlier in the game and Q for at least a few minutes. I'm sure Paige did not want to come out of the game, but she and others could have sat for a few...
It was a great performance. My standard is still Bill Walton, who scored 44 on 21 for 22 shooting (when dunks were banned because of Lew Alcindor's previous dominance at UCLA).
Kiki Rice did UCLA no favors at the end of the LSU game driving to the basket. Even if she was trying to draw a foul rather than score, Betts would have been the much better option for both objectives. Betts could well have fouled both Morrow and Reese out of the game with more touches.
Prominent profiles attract NIL interest. Paige's accounts are worth well over $500K. If Ms. Strong is as good as advertised and has an appealing personality, she'll do quite well at UConn with NIL money.
when Geno retires, she will take over as the goat. When Geno retires, Staley may well be the best coach in WBB. But she's a long way from "Greatest Of All Time." LSU fans might mention that Mulkey has twice the titles Dawn has. Staley will also need to win 30 games per year in every one of the...
Uconn never really replaced them. They did - for a short while. I understand Jana was among the best players in the overseas tournament last summer until she was hurt. She was to be our "Dorka." And Azzi/a healthy Caroline would have provided the offense that Lou did. Four of UConn's...
What should my chess strategy be in a match against
What should my chess strategy be in a match against Magnus Carlsen. Geno likely knew what it would take to beat SC - but a lack of depth and size made any execution of that impossible.
Geno really, really did not want to play her the minutes she's needed to be on court this year. She looked completely gassed at the end of the 2nd half.
I was waiting for one of the announcers to inevitably reference SC missing Cardoso. "Impressive win, even without C" Really!?!? Did you not notice the talent sidelined on the UConn bench (not to mention Caroline).
You play with what you have, and SC looked great. But please don't add on by...
If she needs surgery, she would very likely miss this summer's WNBA season, and possibly an overseas pro season's start. Rehabbing at UConn - with the school's medical and training support - would be a fine option to consider. I imagine Geno would be glad to have her join the team mid-season...
If one was able to add a player coming off the bench, I'd add someone not mentioned above - Kara Wolters at her peak. Her height and skill (holds UConn rebounding and blocks records) would really help against physical centers.
