Liberty has very nice athletic facilities and the football stadium is easily expandable. It is in a great location and many VT fans won't have to drive to the sticks (i.e. Blacksburg) for the game. Excellent scheduling by both VT and Liberty. A clear sell-out.
You have two schools that are purely basketball schools and will be totally unable to compete in FB long term. Despite some modest success very recently Duke is really bad in FB and no one goes to the games. Same with Kansas, more or less although they are least a state school and the...
Whaler is correct on all this. Back when I was younger and took risk I loved casino junk bonds and actually did decently. Anyway, I discovered that casinos in LV were poorly run and that included their sports books. Individually, there probably won't be a lot of $$ bet on the UConn game and...
And you would expect something different from the fans of Orange, why?? Some years ago I entered a contest on the SU board, the prize being a souvenir from their time of greatness, many years ago. Much to everyone's surprise I won the item. The gnashing of teeth and horror was universal...
Yo, MM. Most people don't know where Burma is either or, indeed Nebraska. When given a map of the central US, 1/2 the population will pick some state other than Nebraska. When given a map of Eastern Asia, the heads of half the viewing population will explode. Now take BL's advice and just go.
7 seems about right. Lines aren't set by birds pecking at a food source. SU has only played in the Dump Dome and always plays much worse outside. I can easily see a 24-14 game. Scoring in the 20's may be frustrating but it's fine if the opponents don't. I haven't bet sports in many years...
Have attended many games at Wallace Wade (fka Duke) Stadium since 1957 though I'm not in the States much any more. It is a classic small horseshoe located on campus. Plenty of available alcohol available in the parking lots and tailgating is relaxed and fun. Stadium has been updated in the...
It'll be Joe Tessitore kissing Houston's nether regions for three and one half hours. Joe is the sports world's biggest shill and most insincere "expert" so who better than to cover this scenario. Ugh.
It's all rather pathetic. Any conference that chooses the University of Houston over Cincinnati, UConn, CSU didn't do their homework. That being said, I place no particular intelligence on the members of the Big 12 either. If football success, as defined by the masses, is 90% of the equation...
Stupid article. Using Tramel's nonsense Mississippi State shouldn't be in the SEC, Washington State shouldn't be in the Pac 12 and Iowa State shouldn't be in the Big 12 (10) because they all lost to FCS teams. Apparently if you don't win by 30 your program just sucks forever. That's what it's...
I have a lot of like for Rice as an institution and I hope whatever happens that they can do a little better, conference-wise. Houston played a great FB game today and, if that is one's sole criteria, should be in the B12 by 1800 hrs tonight (BMT). B12 would be insane to take them but hey...
Rice is a great academic school and a real financial bargain. It also has fewer students than my HS did back when I was graduated back in the 60's. It is impossible for them to recruit to compete in anything other than baseball. SMU is also small, not as academically well thought of and they...
Most schools "pump" attendance figures if they're not named Alabama or Ohio State. Virtually none report full value tickets/actual fannies in seats. I know personally of one ACC school that does it all the time except for one particular game every other year. Example: listed attendance...
I remember that it was once possible. Now it's Joe Tessitore & Co. babbling too much. I think they are all paid by the word which is why there are so many and most have only one syllable.
I want to watch games with just the crowd noise--no mostly horrible announcers and color guys, silly on the sidelines nonsense. But, not possible because you can't get the feed w/o the verbal diarrhea. Too bad.
I usually try to pray daily at my temple here in Pyin. There is a mantra for souls so tortured they cannot find the door to go forward. Whaler, you are truly a tortured soul; right often enough but little seems to comfort you and you delight in poking virtually everyone else. I know this is...
The only problem I have with this conversation is how stuff is said, not the content. Maybe I'm sensitive because I live part time in a Buddhist country and how you present something is extremely important. I just don't understand the certainty of opinion either. There never seems to be much...
Consider that it takes little talent to be a "talking head" on ESPN or anyplace else. If your boss tells you to create a heretofore nonsense moniker like "Power 5", you do it. If management told staff to emphasize "Doofus 3" they would find a way to do it. To expect ESPN to act logically or...
Much of the US is incredibly insular and Texas et al and the sports dudes who cover them are no exception. I have a friend who now lives in Houston interview at a law firm in that town. The fact that he attended an eastern law school apparently was the subject of much mirth by the interviewer...
Rice is a great school with very low tuition for a private. That being said, it is athletically challenged because of its small size and admission requirements and would be more appropriate as Ivy light.
Whaler--you need some time to chill. I'd hate to be monitoring your blood pressure. A few weeks as a novice monk over here in Myannmar would work wonders for you. Even your avatar suggests anger?
I didn't think the Sporting News was still around. Bill Bender has the mindset of someone who obviously belonged on the staff during the SN's heyday, about 1955.
