    Selection Show Thread

Show some guts and leave a mediocre, 14 loss Mich St team out for once.

What will you remember the most about this Championship Team?

The fact they buried the cock-a-roaches of conference realignment (Swofford, BC, Rutgers lucky sperm club, the AAC) and the fact that none of these parasite football schools ruining college sports came close to winning.

2000-two-three party over oops out of timme. On Saturday we’re gonna party like it’s 1999.

East Hartford’s Rentschler Field needs $63 million upgrade, new study says. ‘like walking into a time capsule’

The typical CT way of building a minimum viable product loses again. Let’s make sure the program survives in FBS first.

    On to next year

I despise coach k, but he said one great thing “the tournament is cruel”. I mean St Peters(!) just made the sweet 16.

Guess how many 3s New Mexico State make today?

Hurley was relieved to not be playing a Big East game but had no idea how to plan for said game. The fact they were different was worth 10-15 points

    Big East championship week …..

X is 8-12 in conference play, was pasted at home by the NYC metro teams, and out of their last 10 games beat 0-19 Georgetown and UConn helped by the refs and Hurley’s reactions to them. Pass, let some 24-8 mid major in.
  12. NCHusky91

    22-8 & 13-6

They’re going to MSG, going to the dance, are improving every year, and no longer are in the AAC. I’ll take it

What did all you grumpy old farts think of the black jerseys?

I like them. Anything with “Connecticut” or “Huskies” over “UConn”.

    Explain your avatar

There was some Animal House thing going on years ago, and mine is Bluto after the ladder tipped over.

    Hurley Apologistas

It’s still early, but it’s undeniable that this team plays poorly during winning time, injuries or not. Losing to every team better than you last year, including being non-competitive against a MD team who ran their coach out on a rail before December does not breed confidence, regardless of...

    Where does 115 points rank?

I remember this one, UConn was up 60-42, Eric Murdock, Dickie Simpkins and crew steamrolled the boys in the second half. Loss 3 of a 6 game streak, the Dream (Season) was definitely over.

    OT: 1990 Storrs

I remember it being an “Edwards Universal” in 1986, across Dog Lane from the “Scissor Wizards”. Much like an IGA.

Does our own Play by Play Guy think we should be minor league?

I think I've heard of such a structure, they're called "conferences", where universities of more or less the same geographic location and/or type join together to compete. UCONN couldn't the right combination of the two for football that wasn't killing the rest of the athletic programs...

PAC-12 considering 9am start times for football

They should do the same for the basketball “conference of champions” so we could have the Bill Walton “wake and bake” perspective.

UMass offers a blueprint for UConn’s potential football future (Paul Doyle - Hearst)

The AAC didn't help this situation either. With the 5 original rivals back on the schedule with guaranteed away games, pehaps the media will pick up the away coverage a bit.

Fixing football attendance in the NBE era.

They tried to build the stadium in Storrs in the late 90s but the NIMBYs in Mansfield and the ever so-forward looking CT Legislature knocked it down.

Good ESPN Article on the 99 Championship

I love that fact the Zags still hurt from that loss. Took an 0-12 from El Amin (and a really boneheaded turnover late) to be that close.

    OT: Best bar in CT

Met my wife of 21 years there. Almost got killed by this big scary guy when I beat him at darts and he accused me of cheating. Great beer fridge when most places were Bud/Miller/Coors. Liked Hooligans at Rt.32/S. Eagleville. Perfect place to wind down after a night of Ted's mobs with darts...

    OT: Bill Walton Appreciation Thread

For some reason I like obnoxious ginger hippy ex-athletes as commentators, so he (and Alexi Lalas) are alright in my book. He's one guy who can make a Thursday night 11:00 game from Corvallis, Oregon seem interesting.

Developer plots mega-sports complex in W. Locks with stadiums, hotels, 500 jobs

You knew that place was financially dicey from the start when they even charged the players $1 to get in. Great memories of being 20-something and quick, though.

    Characters You Absolutely Despise

Pretty much every replacement in the original Law and Order after Briscoe, Logan, Kincaid, and Stone (not all originals but the group that got me hooked). Especially Curtis and Ross directly replacing Logan and Kincaid. McCoy was interesting sometimes, insufferable others.

    ECU Basketball Coaching Search

Can do much worse than Lutz, he had some really good teams in a very similar league. Knows how to handle Cincinnati's physical style. Great history in NC. A little lower profile than some of the other retreads in the league.

    OT: Hornets win by 61

As Pat Benatar once sang..."it's a little too little, a little too late" for the Buzz. At least Cho didn't trade Kemba before he was run out of town.

Just found this delightful nugget in my files.

Laettner reacted like he deserved it. That ridiculous penalty, the start of the JC vs. Fatso and Fruit Loops feud. Billy Packer: "how did the refs miss that?" Because they're not sitting on the baseline like the camera man. Don't miss him one bit.

We can solve Problem #1, we can't solve Problem #2

Ok then, so if the conference allegedly doesn't matter then how about travel or TV? Who's up for Thursday in Tulsa on ESPNNEWS? Or Sunday 3:00 PM in Greenville, NC?

Anybody catch the end of Louisville UVA?

Shamon had the bad pass, but the matador defense to allow the really quick two before the three by Darius (?) Rice didn't help. Of course the "sarcastic clapping" game had a 6 point lead turn to a 1 point deficit on one trip down the floor, except the point guard bailed the team out.

    Give Kevin a Chance

The team is #130 in the Sagarin Ratings. If this were soccer he would have been fired in '15 after missing the tournament.

    In a nutshell...

Who do I want to coach? Someone who can do a better job recruiting, developing, retaining, and in-game coaching better than Kevin Ollie currently does. It's not too tall an order.
