    Rank those on the Wall

"Personally I think anyone who picks DT or Moore or Stewart as their #1 is justified." For classical music fans a similar debate has gone on for many decades between Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. It ultimately comes down to the tastes and prejudices of the fan.

    Rank those on the Wall

Diana had perhaps the best single season in 2003. 2004 was more of a total team effort, she enjoyed great shooting from her teammates. Maya might have won four straight if it were not for total meltdowns by Renee Montgomery (2008) and Tiffany Hayes (2011). Diana herself had a 1 for 15 meltdown...

    Baylor on a record pace

I don't know how to access these stats, but I am surprised that 2010 UConn has such a high margin-of-victory, and 2009 is not on the list. As I recall it, the 2010 championship game was won by only six points, and 2009 UConn dominated throughout the tournament.

    26 straight Sweet 16's?!

Makes sense that the 2008 team cut down the nets. UConn had not been to a Final Four since 2004.

    Insightful piece on NBA play

Carmelo Anthony is the last great American ball hog I think this bodes well for the future of women's basketball. A good read.

    Seattle Storm @ Minnesota Lynx - 6/26/18

A one-sided win despite no points from Seimone. Sylvia had three steals and no blocks - go figure.

The last three minutes of the first quarter of the 2013 national semifinal game. A defining moment in UConn history, in my opinion.

    UCONN All Time Line-ups.

Yours is a compelling question, until you ask the name of the player to remove to make room for Swin. She arguably deserves a spot, but not certainly.

    UCONN All Time Line-ups.

In the same season (2001) Tamika Catchings lasted only 17 games and also made first team AA.

    Post Game — Post Mortem...

Lou is one year away from being the best UConn player to not play in a national championship game. I hope that's enough motivation.

    Where was Dawn?

I remember checking the stats at halftime and realizing that Crystal had, with the exception of one personal foul, played a perfect half. Arguably one of the best halves in UConn postseason history. When you coach against a superior team, you have to give something. If Dawn's game plan included...

    A'ja talk

This is the end of a college career of a 3-time AA who led her team to a national championship. How many others can you name in this century? DT, Candace, Maya, Stewie, Svet? It's appropriate to focus on her. Kia and Gabby will have their careers recognized at the Final Four.

    KLS - very underrated

The OP specifically mentioned blocked shots as being part of the argument for Lou as NPOY. Otherwise I would not have brought it up.

    KLS - very underrated

While I agree that Lou is UConn's best and most improved player this year, I think that Wilson most deserves NPOY honors. Lou is a bit more efficient offensively, but A'ja has to face double-teams on offense much more often, and is a much better defensive player. The blocked shots totals are 105...

Top 20 teams in sports over 20 years

If we were to really focus on impact, rather than overall team skill, then a strong argument could be made for the inclusion of 1999-2000. That was UConn's second NC (meaning UConn was not a one-hit wonder), and those players were key in Diana Taurasi's decision to attend UConn. Strange that the...

    Quinnipiac vs Uconn

Looks like the Huskies might pull this one out. Pheesa would be a Wade finalist again if she had played like this all season. But this is the time of year that matters most.

And so it begins: USA Today says the St. Francis blowout is bad for the sport

All the teams you listed are very good, at least. If anything sucks, it's the NCAA tournament's single-elimination format. Why not select the best 16 teams, and have a double-elimination tournament? Better basketball and fewer blowouts. NCAA baseball does something like that, and I've not heard...

Which Major NPOY Award is the Most Prestigious?

My understanding is that Wade voters are encouraged to take off-court factors into consideration in voting choices (eg. academic honors, leadership, community service). I just remember reading that once. So the best basketball player might not necessarily win, though usually does. For example...

Which Major NPOY Award is the Most Prestigious?

I would say the Wade. Though the failure to award the 1993 Wade to Sheryl Swoopes must be among the greatest slights in history, ranking close to Citizen Kane not getting the Best Picture Oscar. One of the most poignant moments in Wade history was the expression on Candace Parker's face after...

Best Of The Best: UConn's Top Ten Players

My comparisons only concerned performance at UConn. WNBA and Olympic accomplishments are not relevant. It is not absurd to use those stats; they are extremely relevant to point guard performance.

Best Of The Best: UConn's Top Ten Players

Hard to see how Moriah is not top 10, or even top 5. She had more assists and steals than Sue or DT, and fewer career turnovers than both. She actually had 104 fewer turnovers than DT. Might begin to explain why she has four championship rings. And she was a better defensive player than both.

UCF vs. UConn — Game Thread

You are so right. So Louisville was destroyed by UConn in the 2013 final, and we were deprived of a UConn vs. Baylor final, which might have been the game of the century.

    AA awards

All I want from this season is for Kia to become a HoH, UConn to extend their FF streak, Lou to play in her first national championship game, and the most deserving Husky to be FF MOP.

The UCONN Moment That I Will Never Forget

My favorite moment was a play in the 2000 championship game. An extra pass for an easy lay-up on a fast break. It was poetry as much as athletics. I became a fan-for-life watching that game.

    Maya is a winner

There's also a connection between Maya and the Final Four. When Maya came to Storrs in 2007, UConn had not made a Final Four in the prior three years. UConn made it to the Final Four in each of Maya's years, and has not missed a Final Four since. The Lynx have also made it to the WNBA's final...

    UConn vs. MSU Game Thread

Strangely, this is pretty much what I was hoping for and expecting at the beginning of the season. Make the Final Four but not win it all. Did not think UConn would be quite as good as Baylor, ND, SC this year. But oh did they impress me. 111-game winning streak and 10th consecutive Final Four...
