Top 25 players in the Sweet 16 (ESPN)

Kiki Rice's NCAA tournament stats: 22ppg, 6.5rpg, 2.5apg, 52%FG, 17/17 from FT line, just one turnover Team's leading scorer in NCAAs. Massively undervalued at 21. Aziaha James' NCAA tournament stats: 20.5ppg, 2.5rpg, 3.5apg, 47%FG, 5/5 from FT line; just one turnover . Team's leading...

    Three of Sixteen!

Given the tournament has been mostly chalk so far (all 1 and 2 seeds advancing), I think it's more instructive to see which teams underperformed: #3 seeds: UK (SEC) lost in first round, Baylor (B12) lost in second #4 seeds: Auburn (SEC) lost in first round, Kansas (B12) lost in second--though...

    More injuries in WBB (merged)

Plenty of 4 seeds lose to a 5 seed (see Colorado and Kansas St). I'm not a believer in Baylor, but given they were without their best player and All American, thought Va Tech played really tough all weekend. Sucks their season had to end this way, but all the players on the court should hold...

    More injuries in WBB (merged)

Yeah I guess the questions is, where would you have ranked VT if you had known about Kitley? I can definitely see them dropping from a 4 to a 5 and not getting to host anymore (to either CO or Utah's advantage), but...I can't see them falling any further.

    ESPN AA Team

If there is one person keeping A. Edwards off any All American lists it will be Paige. I actually don't think any team will place two in the top 10, and if there is one team, it's probably SC (Cardoso and PaoPao).

    End of Year Awards

A bit surprised LSU and Ole Miss both have two players on SEC first team while SC only has one; although potentially the 3 players from SC on second team all split votes.

    Caitlin Clark to the WNBA

The WNBA's TV deal with ESPN is up in 2025. Most people think the next deal will be significantly bigger, which obviously supports league salaries. If Clark is able to bring more viewership to the WNBA, that will benefit all players.

I will be shocked If Iowa and SC end up in same region.

    AP (2/26) UConn to 10

Stanford is almost certainly going to win the Pac12, and maybe get a #1 seed, by virtue of their Pac12 schedule. There's a clear top 6 teams in the Pac 12 this year [Stanford, UCLA, USC, Colorado, Oregon St, Utah)--up to 5 of them could get a top 4 seed. Stanford has only played SIX total...

Gayles was tragically the victim of a shooting that made her miss her entire freshman year. The fact that she is back on the team as a redshirt frosh is a minor miracle, but she's only appeared in 7 games this year. The USC team looks a lot different than last year's team, not just because of...

    End of Year Awards

I know there is a debate among UConn fans about who is more deserving to be recognized between Bueckers and Edwards, but I would be shocked if voters don't honor Paige due to MUCH higher name ID, plus the fact that she's having a great comeback season. IMO, if voters are going to honor someone...

    WNBA 2024 season

You got to think at #3 they are aiming for Cardoso or Rickea Jackson. At #8, maybe Puoch from Australia? Maybe Jacy Sheldon will be available at #13 (or #8 if they think she has Allie Quigley potential)/

    New AP Rankings (2/19/24)

I agree though Kansas St actually has one more TOTAL point (521 vs 520) than Colorado, so for all intensive purposes voters have them tied.

That looks about right Vowel. Given VA Tech's recent "resurgence" [back in the top 8 of AP, in drivers seat to win ACC]; and the fact that Kitley was a preseason all american--and having another great season--she fits right in on the first team. I could see Paige taking one of Hidalgo or JuJu's...

    End of Year Awards

All great names bballnut90, and the more I think about it, the more I think it will be tougher for ANY school to get two names on a 10 player list, given how much parity there has been this season [and the one team that could get 2 players--SC--is the ultimate in balanced production]. That would...

Week 15 - Feb 12 to 18 (games, conf standings, NET)

If Oregon st can take care of business at the Washington schools, and split USC and Stanford at home, they are 100% in the running for a #1 seed. [At this point, I think only SC, and MAYBE Stanford--given their remaining schedule--have a #1 seed locked up]. I think probably only one of Ohio...

A Boneyard Special Pre-Committee Reveal Poll: The Super 16

I would say the NET has been wonkier than the AP this year, imo. UConn at 4, Utah as the second highest rated team in Pac 12, Indiana ahead of Kansas St, Nc State, CO, USC despite having ZERO good wins.

    NCAA first seeding reveal

Given how Oregon St has been playing, their remaining schedule also gives them a lot of opportunity to move up to a #2 seed, if not a #1 seed if they truly run the table and beat UCLA, USC, and Stanford all at home [daunting but far from unfathomable].

A Boneyard Special Pre-Committee Reveal Poll: The Super 16

The fact that SC and LSU only play once in the regular season is a scandal, but if you look at the season's preseason rankings [from November] their schedule looked a whole lot tougher: #1 LSU #2 UConn #5 Utah #10 ND #11 Tenn #12 Ole Miss #14 MD #16 UNC #25 Miss St In an indication of how...

Wondering what is the issue with the conference bottom teams

Rutgers has talent, but a lot of it is new. Their best defensive and glue player has been out all season, and Smikle's season has been a wash. They do bring in a 5-star guard next year, but this team is going to need to get a lot better defensively and with turnovers.

    Week 14 - Feb 5 to 11

Oregon St is 6 games into what could have been a devastating 8 game swing: @ Stanford L vs CO W vs Utah W @ Oregon W @ Utah W @ CO W vs UCLA vs USC Instead they are thus far 5-1. Even if they split the home series with USC and UCLA you'd have to call this a rousing success. Their only...

    Sheryl Swoopes on Clark

No doubt Maya was excellent her rookie season, but her stats actually pale in comparison to what she eventually became: 13.2ppg, 4.6rpg, 2.6apg. [And I'd argue Augustus and Whalen had better seasons]. A'ja Wilson is similar on that front.

    Iowa player...47 points...no big deal!

Caitlin Clark has already played in an NCAA championship game. Iowa has a great chance of making the Final 4 this year. She's played on the biggest stages in the NCAA, and don't think she'll have any "better" chance of getting there in another year. Plus, while I think she'd be #1 pick no matter...

    WNBA 2024 season

I do think Quinn has a lot to prove, but not sure I'd say she's "messed up" a team. The year she took over, they made playoffs but lost to Phoenix (in OT) in single game elimination where B. Stewart didn't play. Her second year, they lost to Vegas in one of the best series the league has ever...

    Sheryl Swoopes on Clark

Doing a brief review of the WNBA Rookie of the Years (WNBA Rookie of the Year Award - Wikipedia) I'd actually say the number of people who were immediate all league players in their rookie seasons is very small: Catchings (she technically missed her first year out of college for injury, but...

    WNBA 2024 season

The fact that Griner played at all last year--5 months after she was released from Russia--is remarkable. The fact that she played at a very high level [though not at her highest level] is even more extraordinary. Also, no one would argue that the Mercury had a great roster (or coach) last year...

Poll: Hanna Hidalgo OR Juju Watkins

You may be right historically, but as of today, ND and USC's defensive stats are remarkably similar. Both give up just over 60ppg. ND's opponents shoot 37.5%; USC's shoot 38.3% According to Massey, USC's defense is ranked 10th. ND's is ranked 16th. In short, they are both very good...

Poll: Hanna Hidalgo OR Juju Watkins

I want to be clear, I said ND had more "balanced" scoring; not that they were the better team. The better team is ultimately based on results, and thus far, I think it's very clear USC has by far the more impressive results over ND. But as Dillon77 noted, there are plenty of opportunities for...

Poll: Hanna Hidalgo OR Juju Watkins

ND does have more balanced scoring than USC. Hidalgo accounts for 30% of their scoring; they have two others players in double figures. Meanwhile, Watkins accounts for 37% of USC's scoring, and they only have one other player in double digits.
