2024 Recruiting: Liam McNeeley, the Second of His Name, 2.0

Question on these NIL "deals". Say a "personality" like the next Paige Bueckers (or even just the next Clingan or Spencer) goes to UConn and strikes a "deal". Isn't one of the unquantified upsides for the player that if his team does really well and he shines and he will get some "advertisers...

    Tarris Reed commits!

Also puts him in poor position guarding against penetration as he often is blocked out of the play because he is on the wrong side of his man and is blocked from attacking the driver.

    Gordon Sammis Named OC

"to have our passing game look like our run formations, look like our different run plays." " We need to make the defense defend every blade of grass” He must have been listening to me when I was complaining about our offensive scheme/play calling.

    Transfer portal getting nuts

Saw recent Cam Newton interview where he joked, without admitting, that his old man got $180,000.00 for signing with Auburn. If P2 boosters need to pony up megabucks for football players maybe bigtime football boosters won't be as inclined to spend big money on all but the very best basketball...

Getting a proven punt returner is huge

It would be nice to actually force the opponent to punt more often. :p

    Starting Quarterback

That is a pretty low bar for "well enough to be a starter next year". Did any returning starters on 3-9 team play well enough to be set as a starter for 2024? Mora needs to upgrade talent across the board, now that buying players is legal, he needs to get out his check book.

    Alex Karaban hints coming back

Looked at one of the mock drafts and saw 2 Kentucky guards at #3 and #5; both ahead of Castle. How do you flame out as Kentucky with that type of guard talent?

    Courant article about 24/25 roster

Bazz and Boat and Florida/Kentucky might want you to rethink that small thing. Also look at Houston and their crazy good D with Snead and Cryer both listed at 6'1" (don't think they are that tall even in sneakers).

    2024 Recruiting: Tarris Reed Jr.

Filipowski Min 30.4, Reb. 8.3, FG% 50%, 3pt% 35%, Foul% 67%. Reed Min 26.5, Reb 7.2, FG% 52%, 3pt% 33%, Foul % 59%. Rebounding and shooting %'s are pretty similar and Filipowski had a much better supporting cast and coach. Reed listed 2 inches shorter and 15lbs heavier but both seem about same...

    Jim Mora: Something feels different

Every time I try and rationalize something very odd is in fact not very odd, I'm always wrong. Something is seriously wrong, hope it isn't health related.

Bilas: "I think there's a very good chance Donovan Clingan comes back."

What would be more fun, hanging with his buddy Rosa and teammates or doing one night stands in the NBA with a bunch of 30-35 year old self absorbed millionaires.? He and Karaban could both improve offensively with year of being more of "the man" on offense in a college basketball setting than...

Assistant Football Coach/QB Coach/Pass Game Coordinator > Brad Robbins

My big want is increase the amount of deception that our offense (and defense) subjects the opponent to on each play and flexibility to make pre snap adjustments. On offense seemed like opponent could tell point of attack based on down, formation and who was in (which TE, running back, WR or...

The Unfortunate Truth of Basketball Success

Assuming you are correct, and none of it matters, why is it necessary to inform the rest of us? I'll join in since you posted this to get a response: "nothing you think or say matters; another NCAA championship does matter."

    Illinois Defensive Matchups

Think that must also include less stellar defensive stats before Clingan came back fully.

    Scouting UConn-Illinois

Noted at end of several tight games refs called fouls on drives where defender absolutely didn't foul or dribbler jumped way into defender who went up. This type of calls could help Illinois if game is close at end or they are trying a comeback and keep feeding it to their star.

OT: John Calipari to return as Kentucky men's basketball coach

Just saw part III of the Rex Chapman story on YTube and he mentioned Kentucky booster offered him $700,000 in the 80's to return to Kentucky for one more year. Now that is a fanbase that puts some serious emphasis on winning. If the squid doesn't get it done next year they will pony up money...

What is the end game in a P2 world?

Of all the things to wonder when you see an old guy walking around with a veteran cap "wonder why they need the attention" is pretty low on the wondering list. Next time wonder "hope he has had a good life". Was in Loews a while ago and saw an old guy with his wife walking in plant section and...

As he tries to re-energize Brooklyn, Kevin Ollie’s willing to repair his side of bridge to UConn

Think it was much higher up on the food chain than AD to decided to go the "with cause" route. If Ollie was just fired for doing lousy job it would have been over quick.

Pitt's Capel goes after Big 12 and efficiency ratings

I'd like to see someone do a retro analysis of last 25 years NCAA tournament results and see what factors were in play for teams that won or exceeded expectations. Think an important factor would be having UConn on the front of the jersey.

Just looked at the 8/9 and 7/10 and there are few walk in the park 2nd games for the #1 and #2 seeds assuming they get there. 8/9 games Texas A&M vs. Villanova Texas Tech vs. Nebraska - UConn opponent; Neb. beat Purdue St. Johns vs. New Mexico Seton Hall vs. South Carolina 7/10 games...

    Sanogo tonight

Come on, stats aren't everything but they sure aren't nothing. Couldn't sort the G-League stats easily but looks like for players in top 50 of scoring only one with over 60% shooting and has 6 offensive rebounds per game and didn't see anyone else over 3. Got to be getting some GM's thinking.
