Why The Selection Committee is a Joke

Little tidbit about the significance of making it to the conference tournament final or semifinal from a WashPost bracketologist: "Every national championship-winning team since 1985 — with the exception of UCLA in 1995 and Arizona in 1997, which didn’t have a conference tournament — has lasted...

Why The Selection Committee is a Joke

AP Poll: 1. UConn 4. Iowa St 7. Auburn 10. Illinois I would love to know if a bracket has ever had 4 top 10 teams in it before.

    Pitino’s Revenge ?

Yes, but you can shiv the poor schmucks who voted against you when you're back in the room. I've been on selection committees where we took a watch what you say approach.

    Where is our commissioner?

This is the exact opposite of the criteria they used last year when they totally ignored UConn's undefeated OOC including against the #1 ranked team. If you compare the teams, you'll find the BE teams showed quite well in terms of metrics. The teams that got in had a similarly hard time...

    Where is our commissioner?

But last year UConn was ranked 7 in the AP Poll before the tourney started and we were expecting a 2 seed. Instead we got a 4 seed. Even though we went undefeated in the OOC and even beat #1 Alabama handily. So is the OOC important or not? It sure wasn't last year when they held the BE against...

But that can't be how they do it because if that was how they actually did it, the teams would be different.

Duke is closer than Auburn tho, Tennessee is closer than Iowa St, Kentucky is closer than Illinois. So whatever his joke reason, he got it wrong on all 3 counts.

It's not true for Iowa St. Iowa St. isn't closer to Brooklyn than Tennessee.

WTH is the committee head talking about that they placed the teams in UConn's bracket who were closest to Brooklyn in terms of mileage. Good god man, find a map. Iowa St. is not closer than Tennessee Illinois is not closer than Kentucky Auburn is not closer than Duke Find a damn map

Bad losses, but look at their wins and their competitiveness. They went toe-to-toe with Texas A&M, Arizona, Illinois. They did well in their conference as well. This is a much better team than their supposed #32 ranking.

Much less worried about Iowa State than I am about the 2nd game against FAU. I just checked their damn schedule. Holy heck. They played some close games in losses against good teams: Thu, Nov 23 vs Butler * W91-86 3-1 (0-0) Goldin 19 Goldin 11 Gaffney 3 Fri, Nov 24 vs 12 Texas A&M *...

Will Michigan make a play for Hurley?

I'm not sure Hurley would trade the great weather of Tempe for the miserable winters and humid summers of Ann Arbor, and the people there are miserable as well. I think Arizona State keeps him

Devin Carter is the Big East Player of the Year

I really don't care that people are bothered that some of us are still harping on this BUT... ... the Big East coaches had a chance to make up for leaving Newton off the preseason 1st or 2nd teams (heck, they didn't even have the honor to even mention his name). And instead, they blew it. They...

Fanta panel discussion with JC and Pitino

They really didn't like each other at all. Those were some wars. And there were great players on those Calhoun - Pitino teams at Northeastern. I got to see Reggie Lewis in BU's gym (Pitino was no longer the coach, he had just left that year).

Devin Carter is the Big East Player of the Year

If you applied this same sort of criteria to last year, Sanogo is POY: 17.2 pts, 7.7 rbs, 64% shooting in 26 minutes. Kolek: 12.9 pts, 7.5 assists, 47% shooting, 32 minutes. Clearly, we're talking about 2 entirely different sets of criteria for judging POY. Purely on being a better player...

Devin Carter is the Big East Player of the Year

Yes, I got it mixed up with the AP. Newton won AP POY but wasn't a unanimous selection. Seems some sportswriters in Big east cities didn't rate him highly at all, yet he still won POY

Devin Carter is the Big East Player of the Year

Just remember, Newton wasn't even a unanimous selection on the 1st team this week. So one or two coaches don't think he's as good as he really is.

There has been recent discussion (as in, by the principals) of the P2 keeping most of the CFP money and the playoff berths, which has lead to speculation about the move to freeze out everyone except the P2. This is happening side-by-side with a discussion about expanding the NCAAT and limiting...
