The Official 2024 New England Patriots Thread

There's no guarantees in this. My hope lies mostly in Alex Van Pelt and McCartney. Van Pelt was Aaron Rodger's QB coach. He played QB in the NFL for a decade. I think so. Zach Wilson's problems are largely mental. Maye has footwork issues stemming from that crap Air Raid system at UNC. So...

Fanta quotes unnamed high major coach on the portal

The coach is right, but the NCAA is afraid that any action that has the potential impact of limiting NIL or access to NIL, will be subject to an immediate legal action under the Supreme Court precedent. This is why Charlie Baker asked Congress to act, because the NCAA can't do this otherwise.

Now this is a great start. Thankful the Commanders gifted him to us.

    The Portal and Hurley's Strengths

It's not that he plays the 4, it's that Stewart needs to play the 3 or 4. If Alex is back, minutes at forward are scarce because you really can't sit any of those three guys for extended periods. They all need 25 minutes and none can play guard.

More likely he's not sure he wants to come if Alex is going to be back.

    The Portal and Hurley's Strengths

I think Kansas and Duke are both realizing that the portal cuts both ways. While you are clearly a top 5 target destination, you aren't so attractive that players are going to sit around if you recruit over them. How do you maintain depth? It takes careful balancing and as Hurley has said...

    LAX>Santa Barbara this Summer

The downtown area is cute (or at least used to be), Warner Brothers. My ex-GFs mom lived there, always enjoyed it. An area of LA that's actually walkable. For someone who's never been it's more interesting than what's around LAX. I realize LAX is closer to PCH, but I'd go west through the...

    LAX>Santa Barbara this Summer

is it that bad now? I used to do San Jose to West Hills all the time and I don't remember it being that bad, and Monterey is closer. We usually took 5 though.

UConn and Texas finalizing a H/H Agreement

That video makes it look like a great plan. Like that they keep the facade at Soldier Field. Some of these old stadiums needed to go. Candlestick was an abomination (for both sports). Lambeau, Wrigley and Fenway are about the last historic stadiums that endure in pro sports. Not sure if I...

Baylor vs. UConn in Big East/Big12 Battle

Kansas has no say in it. Kansas fans are complaining too, because they wanted it. KU isn't Duke, they welcome these games.

Baylor vs. UConn in Big East/Big12 Battle

They do not do rematches. Always play a different team than you played the year before. Baylor home is the best outcome we could get.

UConn and Texas finalizing a H/H Agreement

Best game they could give us. They don't do rematches in the challenge. I hope AD Dave contacts KU about a home and home, but the challenge may prevent it. Texas is a good option.

Who were your childhood bball heroes?

Magic Johnson. Still my all time favorite player. Even though I've been a Boston sports guy, I was actually a Laker fan in that era. Blasphemy I know, but I loved those showtime teams.

    NBA playoffs

Thanks for this. The change was overdue. I think we saw the NCAA tournament was called similarly. I don't think I've ever seen it be quite so favorable to defenses. There has long been too much tolerance of players who hunt fouls (like Tristen Newton). Turning some of those plays where the...

How UConn saved nearly $3 million on postseason bonuses for Dan Hurley, Geno Auriemma and staffs (Mike Anthony)

That's just a cautious move. Should have just put a couple of million on UConn to win at +2000. Would solve a lot of problems.

Talk to me about replacing windows...

This is why I suggested looking at the glass surface area. The old replacements you lost a lot of glass compared to full frames. Now they make replacements with comparable glass surface area.

    Aidan Mahaney

I know some will be surprised by this, I was watching him, but I think Ross is more guard than forward. We've had him bring the ball up and operate mostly in the backcourt. Think Guard in the Andre Jackson/Castle meaning of it.

Talk to me about replacing windows...

No. Just like you don't save money trading in your car for a more efficient one. But eventually you need a new car anyway. If you have wood sills, those are going to rot. They may stop moving properly and swell at certain times. That's why we did the front first (gets all the rain and we had...

2024 Recruiting: Liam McNeeley, the Second of His Name, 2.0

I wish this board would stop accusing every player who doesn't choose UConn of making the decision based solely on money. There are lots of reasons to choose schools other than UConn. Except Syracuse, there's no valid reason to go there.

Talk to me about replacing windows...

You'll find out that the real problem is that these windows are mostly all sold via dealers that make all their money on the installation. You will need to shop like you're a contractor, and most of these places won't make that easy. Harvey is one that is popular with builders, so may be...

2024 Recruiting: Liam McNeeley, the Second of His Name, 2.0

He's pretty close to ideal for our system, which is why we're all so excited. On the defensive side, I can imagine the pitch is for him to consider how important defense is in the NBA. His offensive skills will play, but not if he's a liability on that end. Castle is an example of what happens...

Talk to me about replacing windows...

Do it yourself? Yikes. They are super expensive installed. We replaced all of ours, front then the back a few years later (weather impacts the front. Some quick thoughts. Not Anderson or Pella. All that advertising money makes them a poor value. Vinyl clad. They almost all have good...

    Mayonnaise on French Fries??

I like Malt vinegar too. You know what else gets a lot of its flavor from vinegar, Ketchup and Mayonnaise. French fries need the acid. I think BBQ sauce and Buffalo sauce also work well on fries.

2024 Recruiting: Liam McNeeley, the Second of His Name, 2.0

It is in all these deals. Nobody can pay them NIL unless it is for using their name, image and likeness in marketing or promotions. It has to be an exchange even if not at fair value. Clingan is an in state kid, so has more name recognition and value to advertisers locally. I’m not sure players...
