Ranking the best players that Uconn has knocked out of the tournament.

So would Kim English count then? In the 1990s we knocked out a bunch of bigs who played at least a few years in the NBA - Brian Grant, Adonal Foyle, Danny Fortson, Todd MacCullogh.

Senior night, 34 years ago (dream season)

Ten deep. Toraino, hero of the BET, slayer of Coleman, Mourning, and Mutombo, hadn't yet met his moment.

Castle has entered Ricky Moore territory

Castle's overall poise is unbelievable. Nova tried the Andre defense on him, daring him to shoot. He did a few times, but other times he drove into the defense and made something happen. He refused to let Nova dictate how the offense was going to run. The kid plays like a 5th year senior.

    Conference Win Streak Record

We started 14-0 in the league, there were 2 conference games in December that year. I was at the game that broke the streak (at Iverson's Georgetown). Boubacar Aw stuck to Ray like glue and we could never get anything going. It set up the classic BET title game.

    Providence Post Game Thread.

Which is weird, because it's not like he doesn't play hard. In fact, he plays too hard on some of his hedges. And it's not like he can't rebound - he had some monster rebounds in traffic against Texas. Maybe he's thinking too much. The staff needs to get this one figured out because we need...

    NBA Bound Stephan

That's all true and on top of that his attitude has been fantastic. Tough kid who's all about the team.

I love this dude, he's an absolute nut, but he's our nut! Very similar to our coach.

UCONN in the NBA - 2023/24 Season

Unfortunately Andre had to leave the game with back stiffness. Hopefully it won't be an ongoing issue.

    Not dusting, that's for sure.

    Hawkins Starting

To me the big question about Hawk was how he'd fit in with NBA physicality given his frame. Watching him against OKC was a revelation - he 100% belonged regardless of how he was shooting. Very excited to watch what he does from here.

UCONN in the NBA - 2023/24 Season

I know fans tend to be crazy, but the Bucks really did look inept trying to defend a scorching hot Brunson in the second half last night. Since he was the only thing keeping the Knicks in the game, it was hard not to think Andre could have been helpful. Or at least worth a shot. Connaughton...

    Hawkins Starting

I thought he looked really good in the first half. He was active defensively too.

    Best peak performance UConn team?

I think that argument's based on the 'names' of the teams involved, not the quality. 2023 beat all of the following teams by double digits: kenpom 4, 8, 13, 14, 22, 24 and 29 (two top 10, four top 15, and seven top 30)/sagarin 2, 7, 15, 16, 18, and 20 (two top 10, six top 20). Again, all by...

Andre Jackson goes #36 to Milwaukee Buck (via Orlando)

When he first got on campus as a freshman he was held out of practice for a bit because he was coming off meniscus surgery. It was reported on at the time.

UConn basketball out of conference dominance

A lot of similarities to 2009 UNC. They started a lot more highly ranked and didn't have as deep a swoon. But they also destroyed everyone out of conference, then stumbled at the start of conference play (0-2), lost in the conference tournament semis, and went back to crushing people in the...

    Karaban Second Matchups

Speaking of St. Johns...AK was often guarded by a much shorter player last game, but we didn't take advantage. If it happens again we should post him all day.

Please, Kalkbrenner was setting moving screens all game. It was just inside the key and Big East refs apparently don't call it down there.

    Need more from Jackson

He consistently gets in the air on the first pumpfake. He also juts out his chest while guarding on the perimeter, giving him no advantage and leaving him in poor position to move laterally. This stuff can't still be happening junior year.

I’d start Clingan over Jackson …

Don't love starting both bigs, but I didn't hate it earlier in the year when Andre would come off the bench and bring a tremendous infusion of energy 5 minutes into the game. I'd still want Andre out there for 30 minutes overall, but I wouldn't have a problem with starting Alleyne in a Tyler...

    Xavier Post Game Thread

Remember earlier in the year when Newton showed a decent ability to drive and score or draw a foul? We need him to remember that. He's become so unselfish that he's always looking to pass off his drives. Other teams know that and it's hurting us.

Hawkins blocked the shot on one of those.

    Next Five Games

Someone noted that the last team to open with this many double-digit victories was 2009 UNC. After going 13-0 out of conference that UNC team started 0-2 in conference and ultimately lost 4 games (including the semis of the conference tournament) before again demolishing everyone in the NCAA...

    PG Play - Innocent Question

I agree, that was the main issue yesterday for Newton. He was only looking to pass on his drives, and eventually everyone on the court knew it. He passed up wide open 5 footers and did not seek contact the way we've seen him do before. We're at our best when he's doing his Peyton Siva lead...

    This season was a failure.

We lost because we played tighter than a drum in the first half, not because we failed to find a way to stop a great player from having a great game. We'll see in future years whether the tightness was a failing of this particular group or a failing of the coach.
