I am a like with the way Hurley uses the portal thus far. If UConn continues to hold onto and develop the traditionally recruited players while filling holes with transfers it works for me. If UConn becomes what Duke is this year with 5 in the portal along with losing 3 to the draft or...
Reed having 2 years of eligibility is the key. One year with Reed and Johnson splitting time and a more developed Reed and Singare combo down the road doesn't seem too shabby. Although, given the portal and recruiting it is hard to project much beyond next month.,
Agreed, we have certainly been spoiled by the production at the C position for the last 2 years. The play of the Sanogo/Clingan combo rarely ever happens and Clingan's dominance this year was special. The expectations of UConn keeping that level of production from the C position are somewhat...
Calipari and maybe Self will be throwing so much NIL money around. There will be some surprises. McNeeley is a clone of Grady Dick and Johnny Furphy so Kansas will be heavily in the mix.
Good problem to have. In certain situations a PG (Diarra/Nowell) with McNeeley at 2, Stewart at 3, Karaban at 4 and the C would create some serious matchup problems. Not having the 6'6 Castle as a defensive stopper is the big ?.
I don't think anybody on this team inherits a starting role...
Would be a nice piece. Solid double/double potential with 2 years of eligibility. Averaged 9 pts/7.2 rebounds in 26 minutes. Johnson, Reed and a year older and stronger Singare would work for me as a quality rotation. Then Reed and Singare carrying over into the 2025-26 season. If UConn...
My wife’s favorite player of all time. She loved the fact that Tristen never looke rattled. He was always comfortable and confident. Loved the article about he and Hurley having to find a middle ground between Hurley’s aggressive mindset and Newton’s “relax and let me do my job” approach
The Kansas sales pitch is that Liam replaces Furphy. They are very similar players and the system is in place. Furphy has to declare for the draft, but given the weak draft class that seems quite likely. He struggled toward the end of the season and that probably dropped him for borderline...
You are talking generational wealth with a top 10 pick. Then if he gets a good 2nd contract it is multi-generational. Those local endorsement deals will be there for Clingan whenever he wants. He has done his job at UConn and will be a beloved CT figure forever. The risk of injury is way too...
68% on FT in the last 16 games which were mostly high pressure games closing out the regular season, and in the tournaments. As he matures he will be a better than 75% FT shooter which is better than most centers. I would have been interesting if UConn needed his 3 point shot, but there was no...
No coach "pleads" with a player to stay. The coaches will talk to NBA scouts and give each underclassman an honest assessment of their draft status. Karaban and family will make the decision with the assistance of Hurley Some coaches have to actually push players out the door who might want...
When Purdue kept dumping the ball into Edey even when they were down 15 I felt good. Eddy wasn't going to make all his shots and creeping back in increments of two just doesn't work in today's game. The process of Purdue running their offense to get Edey in position also ran lots of clock...
Consecutively, UConn played the Kenpom rated #3, #2, and #4 offenses in the NCAA this year and got these results:
Elite 8 - Illinois averaged 84.4 per game - scored 52
Final 4 - Alabama averaged 90.8 per game - scored 72
Final - Purdue averaged 83.4 - scored 60
Of course UConn was the Kenpom...
We aren’t “them”. We don’t have the top recruits or the constant ESPN/media love. Recruit ranking for UConn (Clingan 71, Karaban 118, Newton NR, Spencer NR,). Castle at 9 was an outlier. We will experience the media in full force next year with the Flagg coverage and then the next year...
Cam and Castle aren't letting them think about back-to-back because they both have 1 more game left in a Husky uniform and they have never experienced a championship.
The only thing that scares me about tonight is the 1999 vibe where UConn is the heavy favorite (like Duke in 1999) and Purdue is the underdog team that has been great most of the year (like UConn in 1999). The factor that lessens my fears is knowing that Hurley and staff will game plan much...
I don't mind the votes for Sampson, but the fact that 18 voters saw somebody other than Hurley or Sampson as the best coach this season is reprehensible.
Can't believe some still point at how "He cost Connecticut taxpayers a lot of money with a certain fiasco". Ya don't think lawyers were the decision makers on this matter and not the AD. The AD did his job and replaced a failing coach with a winning coach. AD Dave did an nice job w/ the move...
I think a lot of players would gladly accept an early morning arrival if they could get out of having to go through the hassle of a media day. I am sure the UConn players are more than happy to hang at the hotel and relax, or do whatever the coaches want them to do.
The first round is full of 19 year olds who's games aren't "NBA ready". It is how the NBA works now. They are more than comfortable developing the 19 year old with potential. Some early picks are stars and others fizzle. Castle has all the attributes of a player that will blossom with full...
That is the beauty of UConn's depth. Sears will play 35-40 minutes. UConn can have Castle on him for 20-25 minutes, Diarra on him for 15-20 minutes, and Newton for as many as necessary. UConn will hopefully wear him down with depth.
The Bleacher Report 2 round mock draft has the entire starting 5 being drafted.
Clignan - #5 to Portland
Castle - #7 to Memphis
Newton - #51 to Indiana
Karaban - #55 to Golden State
Spencer - #56 to Denver
Newton won't be 1st round due to age, but I could see him higher in the 2nd round. The...
So by the "tournament span" does Torvik mean only the teams that played in the NCAA or NIT. If that is the case #53 is not at all impressive. They gave up 96 to Charleston (average 80), 87 to UNC (average 81.5, and 82 to Clemson (average 77.4). Their defensive masterpiece was giving up 61 to...
