Weekly Recap 11/29 – 12/6

Weekly Recap:

12/2 – vs. #15 Florida (65-64 W)

  • An instant classic. Gampel was the loudest it may ever have been. Everyone knows by now; Shabazz Napier drained a 15 foot jumper at the buzzer to lift the Huskies to victory. What is most intriguing is that how Shabazz keeps coming through in the clutch. Unlike other top players, Shabazz Napier doesn’t try to take over the game from the tip. Shabazz sets his teammates up, makes defensive plays, and then takes over at the perfect time. The Husky captain scored 6 points in the final 30 seconds to propel his team over the injury-riddled #15 Florida Gators. Shabazz is arguably one of the most-clutch Huskies of all time; and his late-game heroics prove this.

12/6 – vs. Maine (95-68 W)

  • This was a feel-good win. Maine never really gave UConn a test. The Huskies breezed through their old Yankee Conference foe by 27 points at the XL Center on Friday night. 12 Huskies scored; with Ryan Boatright leading his team with 17 points. Freshman forward Kentan Facey had a great game. Scoring 4 points and collecting 9 rebounds. True, it was against Maine. But Facey will need the experience going into conference play. He is a good player; he just needs the confidence. Senior Niels Giffey scored 12 off the bench, including an athletic dunk off the break. The fall semester finals period has arrived, so the Huskies have a nice 11 day break.
