Ollie Offers Second 2017 PG

Over the past week coach Ollie has been handing out offers to Nike ProSkills players. It first started with an offer to 2015 C D’Jery Baptiste. Then it was 2016 C Schnider Herard and 2017 PG Trae Young and then finally 2017 PF Isaiah Jasey. It’s clear that Ollie likes the young and promising talents on the ProSkills roster.

I was able to catch up with Trae Young to get some reactions from him about the offer from UConn and he seemed very pleased to have gotten the offer.

“It’s just pure excitement. He [Kevin Ollie] was so easy to talk to. He gave me great advice on how to stay humble and keep getting better. It’s definitely a school any kid has to have in their top five. He’s a point guard coach, a winner, and can make me a better player. No brainer,” he said about the offer.

Ollie and his staff were able to watch Trae and his team in Las Vegas during the last evaluation period in the summer and when calling him to offer him Ollie told him what he likes about the young talented floor general. “Coach Ollie likes the way I compete and passed the ball. Although I’ve always been known for my shooting. My style has always been a Stephen Curry type but some compare me to Steve Nash based on my style of passing with both hands,” Young explained.

UConn is far from the only school recruiting him at this point. Rattling off interest or offers from Oklahoma, Oklahoma St., Texas, Texas Tech (his dad’s former school), Houston, Kansas, SMU, Tulsa, Baylor, Kansas State, Indiana, and most recently Arizona it’s clear that Trae Young is no secret to college coaches. When asked where UConn stands on his list right now what he said is very promising, “Its hard to say considering the time I have left in high school but they are for sure top five for me. That’s a tough decision for the future.”
