UConn landed a big-time transfer today in former Florida State LB E.J. Levenberry, a former four-star prized recruit out of Woodbridge, VA.

Coming out of C. D. Hylton, Levenberry, let’s just say it would be easier to list the schools who were not after him than the ones that actually offered scholarships. He was also highly pursued after transferring from FSU to Northern Virginia Community College following his sophomore year. The Huskies beat out Oregon, Georgia, TCU and Virginia Tech, among many, many others.

After transferring from the Seminoles in January, his father was the voice in front of the camera.

“He loved Florida State, loved Jimbo Fisher, loved Tallahassee, loved the fans,” Levenberry’s father told ESPN’s Jared Shanker. “We just didn’t see a future for him under the current defensive regime. Sometimes a system might not be for a kid. He’s going to be an asset. He’s not going to test positive for drugs or make a program look bad. We hope a college coach can recognize that and recognize his talent.”

Head coach Bob Diaco knew that well after recruiting him heavily while at Notre Dame in 2013. The close relationship that was formed there helped in this process, as well as his ties to Virginia, as defensive coordinator Anthony Poindexter and linebackers coach Vincent Brown were also targeting the 6′ 3″ 246-pound linebacker while at UVA.

Levenberry played as a true freshman with the ‘Noles, accumulating 39 tackles, but saw his playing time decrease his sophomore season. His strong work ethic makes him a perfect fit with this Huskies staff, as he gained 20-pounds prior to Fall camp at FSU in 2014, in preparation to play middle linebacker.

I’ll have much more on this signing, including a full extensive interview with Levenberry, this weekend.
