2014 PF Receives Offer From UConn

Kevon Looney is the latest blue chip recruit to receive an offer from UConn. After saying on Saturday that UConn was one of the most recent schools to start recruiting him, the news came out today that he had been offered a scholarship. Looney is a 6’9″ 210 pound power forward out of Milwaukee Hamilton High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. If the staff starts going after him hard now he will join Leron Black and Abdul Malik-Abu as UConn’s top power forward priorities in the class of 2014.

Looney is an elite player. He’s rated as the #7 player in the class of 2014 by ESPN, Scout, and Rivals. He is an extremely versatile player because he rebounds with strength and scores at will from the low and high post. He also is an extreme matchup nightmare at either forward position because as a small forward he’s too big and kills opponents in the post, and as a power forward he’s faster than opponents on drives and can play as a stretch four. He hits the mid-range jumper with confidence and can hit the three but it can become much more consistent. He also is a good shot blocker from the weak side because he plays competitively at all times and gives it his hardest. If Kevon continues to develop his offensive game and add some more strength he will be unstoppable.

In a recent article he said, “I’m looking at style of play, a place where freshman can succeed at, a great coaching staff, and a winning program.” UConn certainly seems to fit that bill. Everyone believes that Duke is his favorite school right now and leads for his services but he denies the rumors. Along with UConn, and Duke, Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee, Florida, Georgetown, Wisconsin, UCLA and others are recruiting him. He doesn’t have a timetable for his decision at this time and also doesn’t have any visits planned.
